New railway siding connects Paulínia (SP) to Rondonópolis (MT) boosting fuel logistics

Bypass increases efficiency in ethanol distribution and supply for the agribusiness, reducing costs and atmospheric emissions

Ultracargo, in a joint venture with BP, finished the construction of the new siding in Paulínia (SP), connecting the Opla terminal to the company´s facility in Rondonópolis (MT). This new structure creates an efficient logistics corridor between the Southeast and Midwest, improving the transport of corn ethanol and the shipment of petroleum products to supply agribusinesses.

The rail siding extends for 4.4 km and links the network operated by Rumo, enabling trains of up to 80 rail wagons. The new facility has a storage capacity of 180,000 m³ and can handle yearly up to 6 million m³ of products — spilt half and half between ethanol and derivatives. The project received approximately R$ 200 million in investments since 2023.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by authorities and leaders from the sector, including: the Ultracargo CEO Fulvius Tomelin; the governor of the state of São Paulo, Tarcísio de Freitas; the mayor of Paulínia, Danilo Barros; the chair of the Grupo Ultra Advisory Board, Marcos Lutz; the CEO of Grupo Ultra, Rodrigo Pizzinatto; the CEO of Hidrovias do Brasil, Décio Amaral; and the president of the Legislative Assembly of the state São Paulo (ALESP), André do Prado.

“Investing in this kind of infrastructure is essential to sustain the expansion of corn ethanol production in the country. Railway is the most efficient and environmentally responsible long-distance transport modal, with the potential to reduce emissions by up to 35% — equivalent to 51,000 fewer tons of CO₂ released into the atmosphere per year”, highlights Fulvius Tomelin, Ultracargo´s CEO.

In addition to the siding at Paulínia, Ultracargo plans, still for 2025, the expansion of its terminals in Rondonópolis (MT) and Santos (SP), besides the inauguration of a new facility in Palmeirante (TO), strengthening fuel logistics in strategic regions of the country.
